VACEP membership

Your voice.
Your specialty. Your VACEP.

Decisions about emergency medicine should be informed by the emergency physicians who care for patients every day. But not every Virginia emergency physician is a member of VACEP. Join us and help protect your patients, your practice, and the future of the specialty.

Be at the table.

Why membership matters

Emergency medicine does not advocate for itself. Emergency physicians do.

Every day, emergency physicians make life-changing decisions for patients across Virginia. But some of the biggest decisions affecting emergency medicine happen far from the bedside — in committee rooms, legislative hearings, and regulatory agencies.

Those decisions shape how emergency departments are staffed. They influence behavioral health care, reimbursement, workplace safety, physician autonomy and the future of the specialty.

"If VACEP was not at the table, the practice of emergency medicine in Virginia would be vastly different, and certainly much worse. Lauren Webb, M.D., VACEP Board member

Advocacy in action

Much of VACEP's most important work happens before a crisis reaches you.

Members may never see the legislation that was stopped, the regulation that was improved, or the issue that never became a crisis because emergency physicians were already involved. This is VACEP in action.

  • Meet with legislators and their staff
  • Testify before the Virginia General Assembly
  • Serve on state advisory committees
  • Work directly with regulatory agencies
  • Share frontline stories that shape policy
  • Identify emerging threats to emergency care
  • Advocate for safer emergency departments
  • Protect physician-led, patient-centered care
