Photos and Recap: EM Advocacy Day in Richmond

“This isn’t the law already?”

That was the response from many lawmakers and aides this week as Virginia emergency physicians came to Richmond for our annual EM Advocacy Day, where we advocated for a bill that would require a physician be on-site and on-premises in every Virginia emergency department. The legislation, backed by VACEP, would fix current state law, which requires a physician be on call — not necessarily physically present — in ERs statewide.

Senate Bill 392 and the identical companion bill in the House of Delegates, HB 353, passed out of committees this week with unanimous support. That is thanks in large part to nearly two dozen Virginia emergency physicians showing up to educate lawmakers on this legislation. At the link, find more details on our priority legislation, scope of practice bills we are opposing, and a host of others that are on our radar.
