VDH: Report adverse events in children following THC/CBD exposure

The Virginia Department of Health has received reports of adverse events in children who consumed products containing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) or cannabidiol (CBD). Symptoms include vomiting, hallucinations, low blood pressure/sugar, and altered mental status and anxiety. Some hospitalizations have occurred.

VDH has established a special surveillance system to better characterize the burden and impact of adverse events due to THC and CBD consumption. VDH is asking providers to immediately report:

  • Adverse events requiring hospitalization in children under 18 following exposure to a THC or CBD product

  • Clusters of adverse events in children under 18 following exposure to a THC or CBD product

Reports can be made via VDH's secure reporting portal (linked at button) or to your local health department. Here's the full memo from VDH.
