8:00am Welcome and Introductions Learn how politics influence the legislative process in Virginia and understand the role your legislators may or may not play in forwarding emergency medicine agendas. You will be provided tools and tips that enable you to develop and sustain effective relationships with your legislators. Luis F. 12:30pm Legislative Debriefing. Participants will provide feedback to each other and the VACEP Lobbying Team on discussions held and debates heard during their morning visits to the General Assembly. Strategies to further promote passage or defeat of legislation will be presented. |
8:15am Legislative Briefings. Participants will be briefed on issues currently before the General Assembly that will prepare them to effectively communicate the needs and concerns of emergency physicians and their patients. whether providing testimony in committee hearings or speaking directly with legislators. How politics influence the legislative process in Virginia will be presented so participants are able to communicate emergency medicine issues in non-partisan, patient-centered terms.

2:00pm Annual Meeting. Participants will gain an understanding of the current issues and accomplishments of the ACEP organization at the national and Virginia Chapter levels. Attendees will gain insight on the important role of physicians in developing health care policy at the state level and effectively participating in the political process. Speakers:

9:00am Visit Legislators and Attend Committee Hearings. Participants will utilize information and talking points provided in the briefing to promote passage or defeat of legislation.
