Basic Function

The ACEP Council meeting is held each fall in conjunction with the national ACEP Scientific Assembly, establishing ACEP policy, electing ACEP Directors and providing direction to the ACEP Board. VACEP Councillors represent our chapter and its needs in this process.

VACEP Councillors and Alternates are elected by the members at the Annual Membership Meeting.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attend the ACEP Council meeting.
This includes the Reference Committees, Caucuses, Town Hall Meeting, other informational sessions and the Council meeting itself.
  • Represent the Interests of VACEP at Council.
This may include testifying before a Reference Committee or Council on behalf of the chapter when so instructed by the VaCEP Board. All other testimony by a Councillor should be "as an individual."
  • Contact an Alternate Councillor and the VACEP Executive Director if unable to attend any of the sessions.
  • Introduce and vigorously support all VACEP Resolutions.
  • Review and become completely familiar with all Council Resolutions in advance of the meeting. Coordinate with other Councillors to assure full understanding of Council Resolutions. Alert VACEP Board through President of any recommendations for action prior to meeting so VACEP Board support can be obtained prior to meeting.
  • Be aware of issues affecting members by attendance at Membership Meetings and Board of Directors Meetings.
  • Lead Councillor or his/her designee will provide a written report to the VACEP Board and Membership on the actions taken at Council.
  • When so directed by the VACEP Board, vote as instructed on a particular issue.  When not specifically instructed by the Board, vote the way that in your best judgment represents the needs of VACEP’s membership. Consultation among Councillors will be valuable in these cases.
