Stanley E. Heatwole, MD, FACEP received the first "Career Achievement
Award", at the Virginia College of Emergency Physicians (VACEP)
1998 Annual Meeting on February 10 at The Homestead, Hot Springs, VA.
The award, now named in his honor, was established to give recognition of outstanding
contributions to the Virginia College of Emergency Physicians and the specialty of
Emergency Medicine. Dr. Gilbert F. Schmidt, VACEP President, gave a brief
history of the 30 years Dr. Heatwole has practiced Emergency Medicine. During his career,
Dr. Heatwole worked tirelessly to promote emergency medical care while serving on many VACEP
committees, the Board of Directors, and as President from 1982-1985. He has provided
inspirational and innovative administrative and leadership skill in addition to being
dedicated to the principles of Emergency Medicine and outstanding clinical care.
Dr. Heatwole was a full time Emergency Physican from 1971-1997 at Augusta Hospital
Corporation, Kings Daughters Hospital, Staunton, VA and Waynesboro Community
Hospital, Waynesboro, VA, currently Augusta Medical Center, Fisherville, VA. He is
currently employed at Stonewall Jackson Hospital, Lexington, VA. Dr. Heatwole and his
wife, Linda reside in Staunton, VA.
