
2008 General Assembly - Mental Health Reform Legislation
In anticipation of significant legislative activity in the wake of the Virginia Tech tragedy, the VACEP Board adopted a position paper
Subsequently, a special Government Affairs Task Force on Mental Health Legislation was formed to review all bills
and present VACEP position as requested by legislators and administration officials. Task Force members include:
VACEP applauds the members of the General Assembly, as well as Governor Kaine and his administration for their interest and support of
mental health reform in the Commonwealth. To assist VACEP members in communicating the key interests of Emergency
Physicians in securing appropriate and efficient disposition of this vulnerable patient population presenting in our emergency departments
across the state, the following priorities were adopted and we are seeking amendments to incorporate appropriate language:
