Our Mission: To promote and protect the interests of emergency physicians and the patients they serve.

VACEP's Board of Directors adopted legislative priorities for the 2008 General Assembly. These were: Mental Health Reform, Medicaid and Malpractice, in addition to patient and public safety initiatives.

Our Vision: A Community of Empowered Emergency Physicians who know their legislators and communicate with those elected officials before they are required to vote on any matter. VACEP’s legislative agenda is successful when members participate in the process!

Join our community and become empowered! For starters:

  1. If you do not know who your legislators are, find out now! http://conview.state.va.us/whosmy.nsf/main?openform
  2. Look and see to which committee your legislators are assigned. Contact information for all House and Senate members
  3. Get detailed information on Virginia’s legislative and political process that will help you be a successful citizen advocate. Visit:  http://legis.state.va.us/1_cit_guide/cit_welcome.html
  4. Email our Executive Director, Gwen Harry, to be added to our Legislative Advocates list.VaCEP will send alerts to emergency physicians for whom we have an email address, when your legislator is voting in committee on bills we are actively pursuing.
  5. Attend VaCEP's 2008 Annual Membership Meeting and Legislative Reception on February 26 in Richmond. Details.
  6. Participate in The Medical Society of Virginia's White Coats On Call program. Come to Richmond with other physicians from your District to help lobby the critical issues affecting your practice.
