Be Part of Our Progress
Join your colleagues in Richmond and help take our message to Virginia's legislators: you are caring for their constituents 24/7/365 and you need their help to do it.
While the outlook is bleak for eliminating the state Medicaid programs unfair payment policy for emergency services, we need legislators to get to know the dedicated emergency physicians that are carrying a significant burden of under- and uncompensated care in the Commonwealth. You will help us make progress on this vexing problem when you attend our meeting and reception on February 25th.
It's a 'Don't Miss' Action Packed Day! 8:00am - 7:00pm
White Coats On Call. 8:00am. We join with The Medical Society of Virginia to bring you up-to-date on legislation affecting doctors and patients. Following a briefing on issues passed, failed or in committees this day, our lobbyists will help you deliver pro-medicine, pro-patient messages to members of the General Assembly.
Lunch. Noon. Debrief with lobbyists. Bonus: Network with colleagues from across the state!
The Haiti Mission. 1:00pm. VACEP member Barry J. Knapp, MD, FACEP, will share the experiences from Virginia's DMAT Team mission to Haiti.
2010 Annual Meeting, 2:00 - 4:30pm. President Peter J. Paganussi, MD, FACEP, presiding. Get an update on accomplishments of the College this past year, including our challenge before the State Corporation Commission's Bureau of Insurance regarding unfair and deceptive payment practices by Anthem for the EMTALA services you provide. You will also:
Meet the new Secretary of Health and Human Resources, Dr. Bill Hazel. 3:30 - 4:00pm. Recently appointed to Governor McDonnell's Cabinet, Dr. Hazel is an orthopedic surgeon in private practice in northern Virginia. Hear what he has to say about his expectations and the future of health care policy under the McDonnell administration.
Legislative Reception. 5:00 - 7:00pm All members of the Virginia General Assembly, plus the Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General and special guests from many of the state agencies with purview over emergency medicine issues are invited to be our special guests at this 'must attend' reception hosted by VACEP and our EM Political Action Committee. The first question we get from legislators upon their arrival is "where is the doctor from my district." We need you there to give your representatives a warm and friendly greeting! No politics, just 'pit' talk!
